Class Description

POINTED PEN PERSONALITIES — FORMAL SCRIPT
“Dressed Up” Formal, Flourished Script (1 day)
Fri 20 Sep 10am - 5:30pm

Elegant, refined, light and lovely. This class will explore the more classic side of copperplate with some added flourishes and ornamental capitals to give you a beautiful, timeless script. Adding light touches of flourishing and variations of capitals will produce a graceful hand with a refined, sophisticated personality.

Pre-requisite: A basic experience in pointed pen lettering is recommended

POINTED PEN PERSONALITIES — CASUAL SCRIPT
“Dressed Down” Casual Script (1 day)
Sat 21 Sep 10am - 5:30pm

Spirited, lively, casual. This class will explore the fun side of copperplate script, as you learn how to modify the classic form to produce a more “dressed down” alphabet. Shedding the refinement and “dressed up” persona of copperplate, you will nod to the classic, but add some elements to change to a more informal personality.

Pre-requisite: A basic experience in pointed pen lettering is recommended

FROM PEN TO PAPER TO PRINT
Sun 22 Sep & Mon 23 Sep 10am - 5:30pm daily

This class will go from concept to conception of a calligraphy project. You will work on an invitation design, starting with study of layout and design. The design process will start with the choice of lettering style, use of colour and paper choice.

Next, you will be preparing your lettering to be printed, with particular instruction in using the graphics programme, Adobe Photoshop*, to prepare the artwork to be ready for the printer. You will learn how to use the programme to do touch-up, layout, scaling and editing your lettering. Included will also be a discussion of the various printing methods available today, as well as how to select and use colour in your printing. Students without a laptop will be learning to work using manual paste-up method in class.

Pre-requisite: A basic experience of a calligraphic hand is needed, either pointed pen or broad pen.

*Adobe Photoshop: Students whose laptops are without Adobe Photoshop may wish to consider taking on the 7-day free trial offer.
