FAQs - For Workshop Participants

"When are you resuming in-person workshops?"

As per latest announcements, we have resumed our in-person workshops from Friday 19 June 2020. We have begun inviting students to sign up classes at specific time-slots. All workshops will be allocated to our @Kilat studio, as @Chinatown remain closed. All in-person workshops will be preceded by contact tracing and temperature taking; we will abide by the 1m safe distancing at all times as required as ask that students to follow the same while in our studio.

At the same time, we wish to encourage everyone who wish to continue stay home to sign up for our online classes. These come with a big pack of PDF download filled with useful notes and/or exercises, as well as online video tutorials that detail every instruction for your learning. The PDF downloads are available immediately upon purchase. The online video tutorials are accessible anytime, anywhere. You will be able to watch, pause, replay any parts you wish.

"What is the difference between Modern Calligraphy and Brush Lettering? They're not the same thing?"

Modern Calligraphy is a 3-hour workshop based on a modernised version of the English Roundhand (or some may call Copperplate). It is taught with a metal nib and black ink in class. Brush Lettering is a 2-hour class, based on our Modern Calligraphy class. It is taught with the waterbrush and watercolour (yes, many colours, not just black!).

"Which is easier, Modern Calligraphy or Brush Lettering? Which one should I start with first?"

Hmm... Perhaps we can attempt to make this recommendation, given a little context: if you love colours, cringe at the thought of sitting for 3 hours writing in *yawn* black, love working with brushes (eye-liners included), are signing up for a child (we accept children age 10 and up), have only 2 hours to spare OR you dislike following specific instructions about writing ... then Brush Lettering would be a better starter for you!

"Can I use my SkillsFuture Credit for your classes?"

"Are your workshops for adults? Or children?"

To book, all you need to do is (1) Select Booking Type, (2) Select Studio, (3) Select Date/Time. If you are signing up for friends, you'll be able to indicate that too.

"Are the spots I want definitely available for the in-person workshop?"

As long as an instructor and the space you want are available, your booking will be confirmed. Once we receive a booking, we cross-check our instructor team's schedule as well as studio availability. When these 2 conditions are fulfilled, we will confirm your booking. If there is no instructor or space available, we will contact you with an alternative date/time and/or location.

All studio in-person workshops include take-home materials; the details are all spelt out on the respective sign-up pages. You are not required to purchase any extra materials, unless clearly specified. In the in-person workshops and online live workshops, our instructors will be able to advise on where you can purchase new materials. For online classes, details on materials are either accompanied with the video tutorials, and/or in the PDF download. "What's this 'Maker's Points' about? How do I earn Points and convert those to savings?"

You accumulate Maker's Points and convert them to dollar-value coupons to offset your future purchases. There are various ways to earn more Points: setting up an account, booking classes and making purchases, referring a friend, celebrating your birthday ( you need to include your birthday in your account for this to work ) , following us on Facebook and Instagram.

"What is this referral thing about? Can't I just refer myself to get the discounts? I have a number of email addresses ... I could just keep all the discounts to myself!"

Referral benefits are reaped when you refer us to your actual other-real-person friends ... So even though you might be your own Best Friend *insert hand-on-chin thinking emoji* ... referring yourself is counted in our books as a fraudulent act. Don't do it! Your booking will be cancelled, and all your accounts will be removed from the programme as the result of the abuse.

"Do you provide anything to munch on at your studio? Can I bring my own food and drinks?"

Due to COVID-19 regulations, we are unable to offer any snacks or drinks. If you're bringing in some of your own, you're most welcome to consume these at your own convenience. We are equipped with a small but mighty (tasty) pantry with light bites including biscuits, chips, chocolate and candy. We also have a Nespresso machine, some really nice teas, juice and hot chocolate. Of course, you are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks to enjoy during your workshop.
